Broadstream Joins The OPAN Alliance
November 13, 2003 SEATTLE, WA and SANTA BARBARA, CA, November 13, 2003 - Broadstream
Communications, Inc.® the industry leader in outsourced IP head-end and
video distribution services, today announced that it has joined the
Occam Packet Access Network (OPAN) alliance. The OPAN alliance is the
telecommunications industry's first multi-company partnership program
focused exclusively on delivering comprehensive, interoperable and
easily supported next-generation local loop solutions that minimize
deployment, operational and maintenance costs for service providers.
"The revenue-generating potential of IP-based TelcoTV is
enormous, and OPAN gives us the opportunity to work with companies
focused on building solutions that take advantage of the revenue
generating opportunities that come with the transition to
next-generation IP packet-based video distribution," said Anthony
Bontrager, President and CEO of Broadstream. "Broadstream’s IP TV
Service complements solutions from Occam Networks to facilitate
delivery of broadcast video services over packet networks."
Cost effective IP TV head-end solutions are crucial for the
profitable deployment of video over copper,” said Russ Sharer, vice
president of marketing at Occam Networks. “Broadstream’s fully
outsourced IP TV head-end solution is an excellent example of the OPAN
charter to aid IOCs in deploying new multi-vendor solutions. It should
reduce the cost of head-end deployments, especially for smaller
carriers.”
Companies participating in the OPAN Alliance program ensure
that their products are fully interoperable with Occam’s Broadband Loop
Carrier (BLC) system and work together as a team to develop business
cases that demonstrate the economic benefits of building next-gen local
loops. In addition, members of OPAN complete joint customer trials and
roll out comprehensive local loop solutions. OPAN members also
cross-train on each other’s platforms, facilitating support for
solutions delivered to service providers through the alliance. Members
of the alliance include Sonus Networks, Nuera Communications Inc.,
Syndeo Corp., Myrio, Skystream, and Convedia. For more information
